Indore Metro to Begin Operations by January or February 2025
Indore, the largest city in Madhya Pradesh, is on the brink of a major transformation in its public transportation landscape. The much-anticipated metro rail services are set to begin operations by January or February 2025, with the final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) expected in the coming weeks. The Indore Metro project has been in the works for several years, and the completion of the first phase is now within reach. The initial 5.90-kilometre corridor, which connects Gandhi Nagar station to the third station on the Super Corridor, will be the first to be operationalised. The trial runs for this section were successfully completed in September 2024, and now, all eyes are on the CMRS approval, which is the final regulatory step before the system can open to the public. For Indore’s residents, the metro rail promises to revolutionise daily commutes. The first phase will see the introduction of three-coach trains with a capacity to carry up to 300 passengers, including 50 seated ones. Though the population density along this initial route is relatively low, local authorities are confident that once the metro begins operations and the network expands, passenger numbers will increase significantly. Designed with the future in mind, the stations along the route have been built to accommodate trains of up to six coaches.
