Pune Implements Rotational Water Cuts Starting 5 May 2025

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that beginning Monday, 5 May 2025, several areas in the city will experience rotational water supply disruptions.

This measure aims to manage the increasing water shortage in the region. The affected localities include Dhayari, Suncity, Vadgaon Budruk, Hingne, Sahakarnagar, Dhankawadi, Balajinagar, Ambegaon Pathar, Dattanagar, Santosh Nagar, Bharati Vidyapeeth campus, Agam Mandir, Katraj, and Kondhwa Budruk. According to PMC officials, each area will face a full-day water supply halt on a rotational basis. For instance, on Monday, Balajinagar will experience a disruption, encompassing Shrihari Society, Gurudatta Society, Nivara Society, Saikrupa Society, Gulmohar Society, and the vicinity around Pawar Hospital. Similarly, areas in Katraj, such as Utkarsh Society, Gujarvasti, and parts adjacent to Katraj Lake, will be affected. In Kondhwa, localities including Sainagar, Gajanan Maharajnagar, Shantinagar Society, Mahananda Society, Shrikrishna Colony, and Sawant Colony will also face water cuts.

On Tuesday, residents of Old Dhayari and Suncity will experience supply suspension. Affected areas include Ujwal Terrace, Dalviwadi, Warangani Mala, Pare Company Road, the entirety of Suncity and Manikbagh, along with Samarthanagar, Mahalaxmi Society, the Madhukar Hospital area, Vitthalwadi, and Vitthalnagar. Katraj’s Rajas Society, Niranjan Society, Kamala City, State Bank Society, and the new post office area, along with Kondhwa’s Kamthe Patilnagar, Khadimachine Chowk, Sinhgad College vicinity, Haw Town Society, and Kolte Patil Society (Ward 37), will also face disruptions. Wednesday’s supply suspension will affect Wadgaon Budruk, Wadgaon Highway area, Peru Baug, Dhabadi, Jadhav Nagar, Wadgaon Gaothan, Khurad Vasti, Sudatta Sankul, Samarthanagar, and societies behind Santosh Hall in Anandnagar, Hingne, Mahadev Nagar, Anand Vihar, and Rajiv Gandhi Vasahat. Additionally, Katraj’s Waghjai Nagar, Bhande Ali, Sukhada Varda Society, Samrat Tower, and the area behind Ambamata Mandir will be impacted.

Residents are advised to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the disruption period. PMC has emphasized the importance of water conservation and has urged citizens to cooperate with the scheduled water supply interruptions. This initiative is part of PMC’s broader efforts to address the city’s water supply challenges. The corporation has been exploring various measures to enhance water availability and distribution efficiency. These include the construction of new water treatment plants, such as the proposed 125 MLD facility in Wadgaon Budruk, and the implementation of water recycling processes at existing purification plants like Parvati and Warje. These steps are aimed at ensuring a more sustainable and equitable water supply system for Pune’s growing population.

As Pune continues to grapple with water scarcity issues, the success of these initiatives will be crucial in determining the city’s ability to meet the increasing demand for water. Residents’ cooperation and adherence to the water supply schedules will play a significant role in mitigating the impact of the ongoing water shortage.
