Central Railway Announces Mega Block for Maintenance on 5th January

Mumbai: Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will carry out a Mega Block on its suburban sections on 5th January 2025, to facilitate crucial engineering and maintenance work. This move is expected to cause significant disruptions on several key routes, affecting both local and Harbour line services. The maintenance activities are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and efficiency of the railway network.

The Mega Block will be implemented on the Matunga-Mulund UP and DOWN Slow Lines from 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period, multiple train services will be diverted, and passengers should anticipate delays. DOWN slow line services departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Mumbai between 10:14 AM and 3:52 PM will be diverted to the DOWN fast line between Matunga and Mulund stations, with halts at key stations such as Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, and Mulund. After Mulund, these services will be diverted back to the slow line, and passengers can expect delays of about 15 minutes. Similarly, UP slow line services departing from Thane between 11:07 AM and 3:51 PM will be diverted to the UP fast line between Matunga and Mulund, stopping at stations such as Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Kurla, and Sion.

These services will return to the slow line at Matunga station, resulting in a delay of approximately 15 minutes. Further, Harbour line services will be significantly impacted. UP Harbour line services towards CSMT, leaving Panvel between 10:33 AM and 3:49 PM, and DOWN Harbour line services to Panvel/Belapur, departing CSMT between 9:45 AM and 3:12 PM, will remain suspended. UP and DOWN Trans-Harbour line services will also be suspended during the block. UP Trans-Harbour line services towards Thane, leaving Panvel between 11:02 AM and 3:53 PM, and DOWN Trans-Harbour line services to Panvel, departing from Thane between 10:01 AM and 3:20 PM, will not be operational.

To mitigate the impact, special local trains will operate on the CSMT-Vashi section, and Trans-Harbour line services will be available between Thane-Vashi/Nerul stations. Additionally, Port line services will continue between Belapur/Nerul and Uran stations. Central Railway has urged passengers to bear with the temporary inconvenience caused by the Mega Block, emphasizing that these maintenance works are essential for maintaining the infrastructure’s safety and reliability. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly and check real-time updates on train services for any further changes.
