The construction of the flyover connecting University Campus Square to RTO Square on Amravati Road is making steady progress, with the National Highway (NH) division of the state public works department (PWD) achieving significant milestones. The project, now 50% complete, is set to ease traffic congestion on this heavily travelled route by 2025.
Approximately 1.5 km of the planned 2.85 km flyover has been constructed, marking a crucial step forward. Spans have been laid from University Campus Square to Ravi Nagar Square, highlighting the advancement of the Rs 478 crore Amravati Road traffic improvement project, overseen by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The primary objective of this initiative is to alleviate traffic on this critical thoroughfare. Originally slated for completion by March 2024, the deadline for the flyover construction has been extended to February 28, 2025. This extension was necessitated due to delays in receiving permission to fell 65 trees, which has subsequently delayed the acceleration of bridge construction.
The NH division is employing Malaysian technology to build the spans of the flyover between Ravi Nagar Square and Law College Square. This innovative technique utilises ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete, eliminating the need for traditional reinforcement concrete. the construction of another flyover from Wadi Naka to Ambajhari Ordnance Factory Gate number 1 is nearing completion, promising further improvements in traffic flow. According to officials, the civil work on this flyover is almost finished, with only a 100-metre stretch remaining due to the presence of high-tension wires. This issue has been addressed with the installation of three monopoles, raising the height of the 132 kV high-tension wires from 10.5 metres to 28 metres.
Of the 48 segments required for the Wadi flyover, only three remain to be erected. The National Highway division aims to open this flyover to the public by the end of June or early July. The flyover, stretching from Wadi Gurdwara to Wadi Police Station, is part of the Rs 318 crore Amravati Road traffic improvement project. The completion of these flyovers is expected to significantly enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion on Amravati Road, providing much-needed relief to commuters and supporting the overall infrastructure development of the region.
The progress on the Amravati Road flyover projects is a promising development in the quest to ease traffic congestion. With the adoption of advanced construction technologies and concerted efforts from various stakeholders, the completion of these projects will mark a significant improvement in the region’s transportation network.
