Jaipur train stops due to engine fault

Panic broke out aboard the Jaipur-Jodhpur Intercity Express on Saturday morning when smoke began emerging from the engine, forcing an emergency halt roughly 4 kilometres before Gotan station in Rajasthan.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m., shortly after the train had passed Jogi Magra station. Officials from the North Western Railway confirmed that the train, which departed Jaipur at 6:00 a.m., encountered a technical fault that triggered visible smoke from the engine. “The loco pilot acted swiftly and applied emergency brakes to stop the train, avoiding any immediate danger,” a senior railway official said. Passengers, alarmed by the smoke, reportedly deboarded the train in panic.

A relief engine was promptly sent from Jodhpur and arrived at the scene by noon. The affected train was then pulled back to Jogi Magra station before continuing its journey to Jodhpur at 12:15 p.m. Multiple trains on the same route experienced short delays due to the incident. The Divisional Railway Manager has ordered a detailed inquiry into the failure, assigning a specialised team to assess whether the fault stemmed from inadequate maintenance or other technical issues. Railway officials clarified that no passengers were harmed, and immediate technical support was provided. Senior authorities are closely monitoring developments, and full services on the route were restored later in the day.

The cause of the smoke is currently under investigation, but preliminary assessments point towards a mechanical issue within the engine system.
