Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda travelled on the Namma Metro on Wednesday and inspected preparations for the 7.5-km Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section of the Pink Line, which the minister said is ready for inauguration. The opening date is expected from the Union government in September.
The minister travelled in a standing position among other passengers without security personnel, according to a report by Vijay Karnataka. Co-passengers spoke with him, shook hands and took selfies during the journey. The ride followed an inspection at Majestic Metro station, where Gowda received information from officials about metro operations and infrastructure.
In a post on his official X account, Gowda said the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section was ready to be opened for public use. He said a trial run had been conducted with Rajya Sabha member Tejasvi Surya, MLA M. Krishnappa, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director P.C. Jaffer and other officials.
The minister said the team reviewed the progress of preparations ahead of the route’s inauguration. He added that the state was awaiting the inauguration date from the Government of India, with the date expected to be made available in September.
The first phase of the Pink Line will connect six stations, including Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere, according to the report. Jayadeva Hospital is expected to provide an interchange with the Yellow Line.
The report said the second phase of the Pink Line will include 12 stations. The larger corridor is planned to include key interchange points at Jayadeva Junction with the Yellow Line, MG Road with the Purple Line and Nagawara with the Blue Line.
The Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section is therefore the immediate operational segment referred to in the minister’s statement, while the rest of the Pink Line will be delivered through the subsequent phase. The report did not provide a confirmed public opening date, fare details, service frequency or a separate operational schedule.
The next formal milestone is the announcement of the inauguration date by the Union government. Until that date is confirmed, public access to the inspected section remains subject to the official inauguration process.
