Noida Faridabad Greenfield Expressway Nears Completion

The much-anticipated Greenfield Expressway, designed to link the Noida International Airport with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, is moving swiftly towards completion with several structural milestones already achieved.

Developed under the supervision of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this critical infrastructure project aims to create a seamless road corridor that enhances inter-city connectivity and supports sustainable regional development in northern India. Currently under construction in parts of Faridabad, visible progress has been recorded near the Mohana village interchange. Authorities have confirmed that several pillars have been installed and girder placements are well underway. A six-lane bridge over the Yamuna river, which is central to this route, is targeted for completion by the end of the year. Once operational, the expressway will provide uninterrupted access from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor to Noida International Airport and serve as a vital linkage to other major transit routes such as the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, and the Faridabad National Highway.

The expressway is envisioned as a smart, green mobility solution that will significantly reduce travel time, streamline logistics movement, and offer an eco-friendly alternative to current congested routes. Of its total 31-kilometre stretch, 24 kilometres pass through Haryana, while the remaining 7 kilometres fall within Uttar Pradesh. The corridor begins from Sector 65 on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link road and ends at the proposed Noida Airport, becoming a key arterial road for the region. This infrastructure upgrade is not only an engineering feat but also a socioeconomic catalyst, with land acquisition already completed across 12 villages in Faridabad. According to senior officials from NHAI, construction activities are active in locations such as Sotai, Machhgar, Bahbalpur, Panhera Khurd, Narhawali, and Mohana. The entire corridor is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹1,660.50 crore and is being executed by a private infrastructure firm contracted through competitive bidding.

Environmental responsibility has been integrated into the design of the expressway. Plans are in place to establish continuous green belts along both flanks of the corridor, a move that aligns with India’s larger net-zero emissions goals. These green buffers aim to reduce air pollution, mitigate the heat island effect, and enhance biodiversity along the expressway. In keeping with inclusive and sustainable planning practices, noise barriers and energy-efficient lighting systems will also be incorporated. Connectivity between Delhi NCR’s key satellite cities is set to benefit greatly. Besides improving access to the Noida International Airport, the new expressway will enhance linkages with Indira Gandhi International Airport via the expanded road network. Authorities have indicated that the expressway is designed to be compatible with future mobility enhancements, including electric vehicle lanes and smart traffic management systems.

Bridges being built as part of the corridor play a strategic role in regional integration. In addition to the Yamuna bridge at Mohana, newly constructed bridges at Manjhawali and near Kalindi Kunj have already started facilitating smoother inter-city travel. An additional bridge is also in the pipeline to improve direct connectivity between Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad — three rapidly growing urban centres with increasing demands for dependable transport infrastructure. Experts in urban mobility and infrastructure development believe this expressway could significantly ease traffic congestion in Delhi NCR while supporting sustainable urbanisation. Transit-oriented development zones are expected to emerge along the corridor, opening up opportunities for logistics hubs, residential townships, and mixed-use developments. These zones, if planned responsibly, could help reduce reliance on private vehicles and encourage the use of public and shared transport.

By bridging critical gaps in Delhi NCR’s road infrastructure, the Greenfield Expressway promises more than just enhanced physical connectivity — it supports the vision of building equitable, climate-resilient, and economically vibrant cities. Experts note that such green mobility projects, when backed by proper regulatory frameworks and citizen participation, can promote regional balance, generate jobs, and uplift semi-urban and rural pockets lying along the corridor. The expressway’s timely completion will also strengthen India’s ambitions under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) and Gati Shakti programme, both of which emphasise integrated multimodal logistics and sustainability. It represents an important step towards the kind of inclusive infrastructure India needs — one that aligns economic growth with environmental stewardship.

While timelines are always subject to change due to unforeseen challenges such as land clearance or environmental permissions, officials remain optimistic that the project will become operational by next year. Its rollout is being closely watched not just by local residents, but also by infrastructure analysts and investors tracking India’s evolving transport landscape.
