Railway Minister orders special trains for public

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday reviewed train operations and instructed officials to run special trains in coordination with government agencies, particularly to support residents in border areas.

Following a comprehensive review, the Minister directed that additional services be launched alongside regular train schedules to meet increased public demand. Acting swiftly, Indian Railways operated four special trains from Jammu and Udhampur on the same day. The first train, numbered 04612, departed from Jammu station at 10:45 am, comprising 12 unreserved and 12 reserved coaches. Later, a 20-coach Vande Bharat Express left Udhampur at 12:45 pm, travelling via Jammu and Pathankot to New Delhi. A third special service, consisting of 22 LHB coaches, departed from Jammu at 7:00 pm.

In a separate arrangement, another Vande Bharat Express was operated at 3:30 pm from Jammu for Indian Premier League (IPL) players and officials, following a request from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi later in the evening. Additionally, an unreserved special train is scheduled to depart from Jammu at 11:55 pm tonight, bound for Guwahati via Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The move is part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to ensure seamless connectivity and meet rising transport demands across key regions. The Ministry has signalled that further special services may be launched based on real-time requirements.
