Hyderabad Telangana Investment Ranking Highlights Infrastructure Gaps

Hyderabad: Telangana has secured the 13th position in the NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index 2026, reflecting steady progress in creating a business-friendly environment while highlighting the need for stronger infrastructure and institutional capacity to attract future investment.

The assessment evaluated investment conditions across 28 states and eight Union Territories, measuring factors that influence business decisions, regulatory efficiency and economic competitiveness. Telangana also ranked 10th among large states, placing it in the middle tier of India’s investment landscape. The index was developed using feedback from around 1,850 investors and inputs from 165 partner organisations, with performance measured across multiple indicators covering infrastructure, regulatory systems, business environment, governance, financial health, institutional capacity and environmental sustainability. According to the findings, Telangana performed relatively well in areas such as government policy, business environment and financial health, indicating continued confidence in the state’s administrative processes and investment facilitation mechanisms. However, comparatively lower scores in infrastructure and institutional environment suggest that further improvements will be needed to sustain long-term investor confidence.

Economic analysts note that while policy reforms have helped simplify investment processes, physical infrastructure and institutional efficiency increasingly influence location decisions for businesses. Reliable transport networks, industrial utilities, digital infrastructure and faster administrative coordination are becoming critical factors as states compete for domestic and international investment. The report also recognised initiatives such as TS-iPASS, Telangana’s single-window clearance mechanism, which has been instrumental in streamlining industrial approvals and reducing procedural delays. Experts believe such reforms have strengthened the state’s reputation as a destination for manufacturing, technology and service-sector investments. Despite its mid-table ranking, Telangana continues to benefit from Hyderabad’s expanding innovation ecosystem, strong information technology sector and growing industrial base. Urban economists suggest that continued investment in transport infrastructure, logistics, power supply and sustainable urban services could further enhance the state’s competitiveness in future assessments.

As states increasingly compete to attract high-value industries and long-term private investment, the ability to combine policy efficiency with modern infrastructure and environmental sustainability is expected to become a defining factor in economic growth. The latest rankings indicate that while Telangana has established a solid policy framework for business, accelerating infrastructure development and strengthening institutional capacity will be essential for improving its investment attractiveness and supporting inclusive, long-term economic development.
