Pimpri Stage Collapse Kills Woman During Dismantling Work

Pimpri-Chinchwad | September 5, 2026

A 45-year-old woman died after an iron angle from a Dahi Handi stage fell on her while the structure was being dismantled in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Juna Sangvi area on Friday night, police said.

The incident occurred at around 10.45 pm near Lane Number Two in Juna Sangvi after the Dahi Handi event organised by the Vighnaharta Dahi Handi Mitra Mandal had ended. The woman, identified as Salma Pathan, was returning home with her husband, Salauddin Pathan, when the stage arch was being removed.

The iron angle fell on Pathan, seriously injuring her. She was being taken to Aundh Hospital for treatment when she died, according to the report citing Sangvi police.

Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Koli said the police were registering the death as an accidental death and would take further action after conducting an inquiry. Police are expected to examine whether the stage had the necessary permission, who had been assigned the dismantling work and whether adequate safety precautions had been followed.

According to the report, Pathan’s son was a worker with the Dahi Handi organisers. Her husband, son and other relatives were reportedly not prepared to file a complaint in connection with the incident. Police said the inquiry would determine the next course of action.

The incident occurred shortly after the Dahi Handi was broken and while the temporary structure was being removed. Police have not yet disclosed whether any permissions were issued for the stage or identified the agency or individuals responsible for dismantling it. Further action will follow the completion of the inquiry, Inspector Koli said.
