Visakhapatnam School Gets ₹35 Lakh Safety Upgrade Under MPLADS

Government Queen Mary’s Girls’ High School near the Old Post Office in Visakhapatnam’s South constituency has received a ₹35 lakh renovation aimed at addressing safety risks and improving facilities for students. The upgraded infrastructure was inaugurated on Friday, with the project funded through the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat.

The renovation followed concerns raised by school authorities and local residents about the deteriorating condition of the school building. Damaged ceilings and corridors, along with the absence of parapet walls, had created safety concerns on the campus.

The work covered repairs and strengthening of ceilings, corridors, verandahs, walls and sunshades. The project also included other infrastructure upgrades intended to improve classroom conditions and provide a safer learning environment for the school’s students.

Officials involved in the inauguration said student safety and welfare were prioritised during the renovation. Education department representatives said the upgraded facilities would create a more conducive environment for learning and improve conditions inside the government school.

Speaking at the programme, Sribharat said improving infrastructure in government schools was essential for raising educational standards and strengthening public confidence in government institutions. He also said the state government was implementing several initiatives to upgrade school facilities and create better learning environments.

The MP described safe campuses, quality education and adequate infrastructure for every student as a shared responsibility. He said the development of educational institutions would continue to receive priority under MPLADS in the constituency.

The project highlights the role of constituency-level public funding in addressing urgent repairs in government-school buildings. In this case, the work responded to specific risks in an existing structure rather than creating a new facility, bringing building safety concerns into the scope of local development spending.

TDP Visakhapatnam South constituency in-charge Seetham Raju Sudhakar, the school headmistress, Samagra Shiksha officials, teachers and staff members attended the inauguration. The upgraded facilities are now available for use by the school community.
