Reliance Industries executive director Anant Ambani has announced a proposed investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh, including plans for compressed biogas plants, with the company claiming the initiative could create more than 3 lakh jobs and generate Rs 60,000 crore in revenue for the state.
The announcement was made at an event in Madanapalle linked to the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and the foundation of the Indian School of Agriculture. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman were present, according to Aaj Tak Business.
Ambani said Reliance was planning to establish compressed biogas, or CBG, plants in the state. CBG is produced by processing organic feedstock into a gaseous fuel, and the proposed facilities would connect the investment announcement to agriculture, rural business and energy infrastructure. The report did not provide details on the number, location or construction timeline of the planned plants.
The investment figure includes a proposed Rs 40,000 crore Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub, which Ambani described as a milestone in India’s development. The report did not specify whether the entire Rs 1 lakh crore commitment would be deployed through the horticulture hub, CBG plants, the agricultural institution or other projects.
Ambani said Reliance would work with the Andhra Pradesh government and farmers to support the new Indian School of Agriculture. He described the institution as focused on technology and farmer prosperity, and said it would help farmers become the chief executives of their own farms. His remarks positioned the institution as an attempt to combine agricultural education with technology and rural enterprise.
The announcement places agriculture-linked infrastructure at the centre of the proposed investment. For Andhra Pradesh, the stated plans bring together horticulture, bioenergy, farmer training and rural business rather than focusing only on conventional industrial development. However, the available announcement does not yet establish project-wise funding, land requirements, financing arrangements, employment definitions or the timetable for implementation.
Ambani also thanked the state government for inviting Reliance to partner in the initiative. Addressing Chief Minister Naidu, he compared the proposed agricultural institution with the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, which Naidu had helped establish 25 years ago. He said the new institution could give Indian farmers a similar platform to build enterprise and management capabilities.
The next phase will depend on how the proposed investment is translated into project agreements, construction plans and operating arrangements involving the company, the state government and farmers. The report did not mention a formal project completion date or provide details of the approvals required for the CBG facilities and horticulture hub.
