A proposal for a “SEMICON Telangana” industry platform has placed Telangana and Andhra Pradesh’s semiconductor ambitions in focus, with T-CHIP Chairman Sundeep Kumar Makthala calling for closer coordination among companies, investors, academia, startups and skilled talent.
Makthala raised the proposal while attending SEMICON India 2026, where he highlighted the opportunity for the two states to contribute to India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem. The event brings together 600 companies from 52 countries, with around 50,000 visitors expected, according to the report.
He also pointed to India’s commitment of Rs. 1,27,500 crore under Semicon 2.0 as an indication of the scale of the national semiconductor push. The proposal is not an announced government programme, but an industry platform intended to connect companies, global technology partners, investors, academic institutions, startups and talent in Telangana.
Makthala invited SEMICON leadership to visit Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to examine the region’s technology, engineering, talent, startup and industrial capabilities. He felicitated Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India, during the event.
The proposed division of roles between the two states reflects their different industrial strengths, according to Makthala. Telangana could deepen capabilities in chip design, intellectual property, research and development, electronic design automation and semiconductor startups. Andhra Pradesh, he said, could build on its manufacturing and industrial ecosystem to develop capabilities in packaging, testing, electronics and supply chains.
The proposal therefore frames the semiconductor opportunity as a connected regional ecosystem rather than a single-facility investment. It seeks to link design and research capabilities in Telangana with manufacturing, testing, electronics and supply-chain capabilities in Andhra Pradesh.
