Pune has approved a fresh allocation of nearly ₹114 crore to strengthen and repair key roads ahead of a major international cycling event scheduled for 2027, placing renewed attention on the city’s ageing transport infrastructure. While the investment aims to deliver safer roads for both residents and visitors, it has also reignited debate over the quality and longevity of civic road projects in one of India’s fastest-growing urban centres.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has sanctioned the revised funding by reallocating resources from existing budget provisions, enabling road improvement works to begin on stretches expected to form part of the international race circuit.
