Birmingham City Council has granted planning approval for the Goods Station development, a transformative urban regeneration project set to reshape the city’s skyline and enhance its sustainable living offerings.
Developed by Vita Group, the scheme will occupy the former Axis Square site and introduce a mix of residential, commercial, and communal spaces to the city centre. The Goods Station development comprises five buildings ranging from 10 to 49 storeys, designed by renowned architects SimpsonHaugh. The masterplan includes 990 new homes, a 229-room serviced apartment building, and a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) block under Vita Group’s House of Social brand, providing 720 bed spaces. Additionally, the scheme features a 17,000 sq ft public food hall and an urban garden, creating an accessible route from Navigation Street to Holliday Street.
Jon Weston, Development Director at Vita Group, expressed enthusiasm about the approval, stating, “We are delighted with today’s decision to approve our application for a highly prominent city centre site that has been vacant since 2021. Over the past two years, we’ve worked closely with Birmingham City Council and engaged extensively with the local community on a scheme that will become a landmark destination for Birmingham.” The Goods Station development aims to set new standards in sustainable urban living.
