MCD CT Scan MRI Services to Cost 20% Less at 3 Delhi Hospitals

MCD CT scan and MRI services will be offered at rates 20% below those prescribed under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) at three major Delhi civic hospitals under a public-private partnership approved by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Standing Committee.

The facilities will be introduced at Hindu Rao Hospital, Swami Dayanand Hospital and Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis (RBTB). Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma approved the project, which is intended to expand access to advanced diagnostic services for patients using MCD hospitals.

According to the announcement reported by Jagran, the project will operate under a 10-year concession period. The contracted private agency is expected to invest approximately Rs 120 crore over the period, including around Rs 40 crore as capital expenditure for installing machines and making other necessary arrangements. The remaining approximately Rs 80 crore has been earmarked for operational expenditure.

The entire investment and operating expenditure will be borne by the private agency selected for the project. The MCD will provide designated spaces for the facilities, while ownership of those locations will remain with the civic body. The arrangement is therefore structured around private investment and operation within public hospitals, with the corporation retaining ownership of the underlying premises.

Sharma said the corporation’s objective was to provide modern healthcare services at affordable rates, particularly for economically weaker patients. The proposed rates, set at 20% below CGHS rates, are expected to reduce the cost of essential diagnostic tests for people who depend on public hospitals and may otherwise face higher expenses at private diagnostic centres.

The project will add CT scan and MRI capacity to three hospitals that serve patients requiring advanced investigations, including those referred for pulmonary and tuberculosis-related care at RBTB. The announcement did not specify the number of machines, the private agency selected, the expected commissioning date or the detailed rate card for individual tests.

The decision places the focus on how quickly the facilities can be installed and made operational under the concession arrangement. It also leaves implementation milestones, including equipment installation and service commencement, to the forthcoming contracting and execution process. The MCD has said the project is intended to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure while keeping diagnostic services more affordable for residents.
