Larsen & Toubro has secured two large government building contracts covering Central Secretariat buildings in New Delhi and two 47-storey office towers in Amaravati, with the projects together representing nearly 70.3 lakh square feet of planned built-up area.
The company disclosed the orders in a regulatory filing on Wednesday. One contract has been awarded by the Central Public Works Department for Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 in New Delhi, while the second has been awarded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for office towers in Amaravati. Both contracts have been awarded to L&T’s Public Spaces, Airports & Health business vertical.
L&T classified the orders as “large”, a category valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore. The company did not disclose the individual or combined value of the two contracts.
The New Delhi project involves two buildings with a combined built-up area of 32.8 lakh square feet. Each building will include a basement, ground floor and seven upper floors. L&T’s responsibilities cover structural and architectural works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, as well as external development.
The Central Secretariat buildings are scheduled for completion within 24 months. The contract also includes a five-year operation and maintenance period after construction, extending L&T’s role beyond the delivery of the buildings themselves.
In Amaravati, the Andhra Pradesh government’s contract covers two office towers planned on either side of the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre. Each tower will include a basement, ground floor and 47 upper floors. Together, the towers will have a built-up area of 37.5 lakh square feet.
The Amaravati contract follows a design-and-build model. L&T will undertake the shell and core works, which cover the primary structural and basic building framework required before subsequent fit-out and finishing activities. The project is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
The two contracts place different demands on the contractor. The Delhi assignment combines a large institutional building programme with integrated building services, external development and a defined maintenance period. The Amaravati assignment involves high-rise office construction and shell-and-core delivery within a separate 30-month timeline.
The projects also involve two different public-sector clients and locations. CPWD is responsible for the New Delhi order, while the Government of Andhra Pradesh is the awarding authority for the Amaravati towers. The disclosed scopes indicate that the contracts will require coordination between structural, architectural, building-services and site-development activities in New Delhi, and high-rise structural execution in Amaravati.
“These latest orders further reinforce the confidence that government agencies place in L&T’s ability to undertake demanding projects and deliver them to the highest standards,” the company said in its statement.
According to the company’s disclosure, the Central Secretariat buildings are due for completion within 24 months, followed by five years of operation and maintenance, while the two Amaravati office towers are scheduled for completion within 30 months.
