Hyderabad Traffic Curbs Announced for Marathon on August 30
Hyderabad and Cyberabad will witness traffic restrictions and diversions on August 30 as the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 takes place across several major roads. The Cyberabad Traffic Police has issued an advisory to help motorists plan their journeys and avoid congestion.
The marathon and half marathon will begin at People’s Plaza on Necklace Road, while the 10km run will start from HITEX Exhibition Hall in Khanamet, Madhapur. All three events will conclude at GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli. The 42.195-km marathon route will pass through several important areas, including Jubilee Hills, Road No. 45, Cable Bridge, Knowledge City, IKEA, Biodiversity Junction, Gachibowli Flyover and IIIT Junction before entering the University of Hyderabad campus. The half marathon will follow a similar route, covering key stretches through Jubilee Hills, Cable Bridge, Knowledge City, IKEA, Biodiversity Junction, Indira Nagar and IIIT Junction.
The 10km route will begin at HITEX and pass through major locations in the HITEC City and Gachibowli areas before reaching the stadium. To manage traffic, police have announced route-specific diversions at several junctions. Restrictions will affect motorists travelling between areas such as Lingampally, Mehdipatnam, Kondapur, Kothaguda, Cyber Towers, Gachibowli, Wipro Junction, JNTU and the Outer Ring Road. Several diversions will operate during the early morning hours, with some routes affected from 4 am and others continuing until around 11.30 am. Motorists travelling through these areas are advised to allow additional time and follow directions from traffic personnel. Heavy vehicles will also face restrictions. Trucks, lorries, DCMs, ready-mix concrete vehicles and water tankers will not be permitted on affected routes within the Madhapur, Raidurgam, Gachibowli and Kollur traffic police station limits from 5 am to 12.30 pm on August 30.
Cab, auto and taxi aggregator companies have also been advised to avoid pickup and drop services along restricted stretches during the specified periods. The extensive traffic arrangements are intended to ensure the smooth movement of marathon participants while maintaining access for the general public. With the event covering several high-traffic corridors, coordination between traffic personnel, commuters and transport operators will be important. Motorists are encouraged to use the alternative routes specified by the traffic police and cooperate with personnel deployed at key junctions. Checking navigation updates before travelling may also help commuters identify changing traffic conditions. The marathon-related restrictions highlight the importance of coordinated traffic planning for large public events in a rapidly growing city. As Hyderabad continues to host major sporting and cultural events, temporary traffic management measures will remain important for balancing event operations with everyday mobility.
