Several parts of Hyderabad will experience a 24-hour disruption in water supply from August 29 due to pipeline junction work at Bandlaguda X Road. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board said supply may be fully or partially disrupted or available at low pressure during the work.
The disruption will begin at 10 am on August 29 and continue until 10 am on August 30. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to use available water supplies carefully during the maintenance period. The affected reservoir command areas include Shastripuram, Bandlaguda, Shamshabad, Madhuban, Durga Nagar, Suleman Nagar, Attapur, Kismatpur, Allabanda, Bhojagutta, Gandhanguda and Prasanna Nagar. Several other locations, including Jubilee Hills, Tattikhana, Gachibowli and Madhapur, are also expected to experience interruptions or reduced pressure. Some areas under the Shaikpet reservoir command may also be affected. According to HMWSSB, the work is connected to the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-III, Ring Main-I pipeline. The pipeline lies along the alignment of a proposed box drain being constructed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Pipeline junction modifications are required at Bandlaguda X Road to facilitate the drainage infrastructure work. The temporary disruption is therefore linked to coordination between water supply and urban drainage projects. For residents and businesses in the affected areas, the 24-hour window could create temporary challenges, particularly for households, commercial establishments and other establishments that depend on regular municipal water supply. HMWSSB has requested consumers to use water sparingly during the disruption period. Residents in the listed areas can plan their water requirements in advance to minimise inconvenience.
The work also highlights the need for coordination between Hyderabad’s growing water supply and drainage infrastructure. As the city expands, pipeline networks and stormwater drainage systems increasingly share busy urban corridors, making planned maintenance and timely communication important for reducing disruption. Once the pipeline junction work is completed, normal water supply is expected to resume, subject to operational conditions. Residents should account for possible variations in restoration time depending on the progress of the work.
