Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway to Get 17 New Flyovers
The Hyderabad-Vijayawada section of NH-65 is set for a major road-safety upgrade, with flyovers planned at 17 identified black spots. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials to accelerate construction and complete the projects within the announced timelines.
The Peddakaparthi flyover has already opened to traffic, while the flyover near the Eenadu office in Suryapet is ready for use. Officials have been instructed to complete the Chityala flyover by Dasara, while work on the remaining flyovers is targeted for completion by December-end and opening to traffic by Sankranti. The projects are aimed at addressing accident-prone locations along the busy highway. Flyovers at key junctions can help separate through traffic from local movements, potentially reducing conflicts between vehicles and improving journey reliability. Roadside safety measures are also being strengthened. The minister directed officials to install and repair railings along vulnerable stretches, particularly areas where stray animals could enter the highway and create risks for motorists. However, officials have indicated that flyovers alone may not provide a long-term solution to highway safety challenges. The minister has called for the proposed 6+2-lane expansion of NH-65 to be taken up at the earliest to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.
The highway is an important connection between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, carrying significant passenger and commercial traffic. Improved capacity and safer junctions could support movement between Telangana’s major urban and economic centres. The proposed widening is therefore expected to play a broader role in the corridor’s future. As traffic increases, additional lanes, better junction management and improved roadside infrastructure will become increasingly important.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy also plans to meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with Telangana’s Union ministers, to seek faster implementation of NH-65 widening and other major National Highway projects in the State. The focus on both immediate safety improvements and long-term capacity expansion reflects the growing importance of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada corridor. If the flyovers and proposed widening progress as planned, the highway could see improved safety, smoother traffic movement and stronger regional connectivity
