Hyderabad Joins National Programme To Support Street Vendors And NGOs

Hyderabad has joined a nationwide street vendor empowerment initiative as the True Hope Foundation launches a social-impact programme across five major Indian metro cities aimed at strengthening livelihoods and expanding community support networks. The initiative will simultaneously operate in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune, bringing together street vendors, consumers and non-profit organisations under a unique social enterprise model.

The programme is designed to support more than 250 street vendors while creating a structured channel for products purchased by consumers to reach vulnerable communities through a network of over 45 NGO partners. Organisers say the initiative seeks to generate sustainable economic opportunities for small vendors while delivering social benefits to underserved groups. Operating under the concept of “Buy From a Vendor, Change Two Lives,” the model enables consumers to purchase products through the Foundation’s platform. These products are then distributed to beneficiary organisations, including shelter homes, community kitchens, orphanages and old-age homes, creating a dual-impact ecosystem that supports both livelihoods and social welfare.

The initiative focuses on vendors who often operate outside formal support systems and may have limited access to visibility, financial resources and organised market opportunities. By providing verified vendor profiles and digital exposure, the programme aims to expand market access and encourage sustainable income generation. As part of the project, the Foundation will identify, verify and onboard street vendors across participating cities. Vendor profiles will feature personal stories and product catalogues, allowing consumers to engage directly with local entrepreneurs while contributing to broader community causes.

The programme also includes a community nomination campaign encouraging citizens to identify deserving vendors such as tea sellers, fruit vendors, flower sellers and other small-scale entrepreneurs. Selected nominees will undergo a verification process before being added to the Foundation’s growing vendor network. Urban development experts note that street vendors form a vital component of India’s informal economy, providing affordable goods and services while supporting millions of livelihoods. Structured initiatives that improve market access and financial stability can contribute significantly to inclusive urban economic growth. With Hyderabad continuing to expand as a major commercial and employment hub, programmes that strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship and community support systems are increasingly viewed as important components of sustainable urban development and social inclusion.
