Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a six-day sanitation campaign to accelerate the removal of legacy waste and unattended garbage across key urban areas. The initiative combines extended working hours, dedicated sanitation teams and additional machinery to improve waste management and strengthen the city’s public health and environmental standards.
The Cyberabad legacy waste drive introduces an additional hour of daily cleaning operations beyond routine sanitation activities. The campaign began in KPHB Colony and will be implemented in phases across the Kukatpally, Serilingampally and Quthbullapur zones, targeting identified waste accumulation sites that require focused intervention. Municipal officials say the initiative is intended to clear long-pending waste dumps that can contribute to environmental pollution, foul odour, pest infestations and public health risks if left unattended. Dedicated teams have been deployed to ensure faster waste removal while maintaining regular sanitation services across the city. Urban environmental experts note that the Cyberabad legacy waste drive reflects a growing emphasis on proactive waste management in rapidly expanding metropolitan regions. Timely removal of accumulated waste can improve neighbourhood cleanliness, reduce contamination risks and create healthier public spaces for residents.
However, they also emphasise that long-term success depends on preventing fresh waste accumulation. Effective segregation at source, reliable door-to-door collection, scientific waste processing and stronger enforcement against illegal dumping are essential to sustain improvements beyond short-term clean-up campaigns. The municipal corporation has appealed to residents to hand over segregated waste only to authorised collection vehicles and avoid disposing of garbage on roadsides, open spaces and vacant plots.
