Tata Projects has secured a major engineering, procurement and construction contract for a greenfield automotive plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with the project covering production buildings, utilities and supporting infrastructure for an unnamed global automotive manufacturer.
The Tata Group company said on Tuesday that its scope includes three critical packages: the assembly shop, the press and weld shop, and utility and support buildings. The contract covers civil, structural and architectural works, along with mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, utility networks, testing, commissioning and handover.
The identity of the automotive company has not been disclosed. Tata Projects also did not disclose the contract value, project completion schedule or the planned production capacity of the facility in its announcement.
The project will require coordination across several engineering and construction disciplines. According to Tata Projects, the integrated scope is intended to support the efficient execution and seamless integration of the plant’s core production areas and its supporting infrastructure. The utility and support buildings will form part of the wider systems needed to operate the manufacturing facility, although the company did not provide further technical details.
Rajiv Menon, President and Chief Growth & Strategy Officer at Tata Projects, said the company had partnered with a leading global automotive manufacturer to create a facility that would contribute to the sector’s development. He described the mandate as an important step in broadening Tata Projects’ presence in advanced manufacturing and said the company would bring its integrated engineering and execution capabilities to the project.
The contract expands Tata Projects’ work in industrial and technology-intensive infrastructure. The company said the automotive assignment complements its experience in semiconductor facilities, battery plants, data centres and other advanced manufacturing projects. It also said the development would bring together multiple specialist disciplines and a broad network of partners and suppliers.
For Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the project adds another large industrial construction activity to the city’s manufacturing landscape. The announcement, however, does not establish the plant’s investment size, employment potential, land area, construction timeline or expected operational date. Those details will be necessary to assess the project’s wider economic and infrastructure implications.
Tata Projects said work on the assignment would involve the delivery of the listed buildings and systems through testing, commissioning and handover. The company has not announced the next public milestone for construction or provided a date for completion.
