Tata Projects has secured a major contract to develop a greenfield automotive plant for an unnamed global automotive manufacturer in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, expanding the engineering and construction company’s role in advanced industrial infrastructure.
The contract covers three key packages: the assembly shop, the press and weld shop, and utility and support buildings. Tata Projects said the scope includes civil, structural and architectural works, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems, utility networks, testing, commissioning and handover.
The company did not disclose the identity of the automotive manufacturer or the value of the contract. Tata Projects announced the mandate on Tuesday, describing it as an important milestone in its expansion into the automotive sector.
The project brings together the core production areas of an automotive facility and the supporting infrastructure needed to operate them. Its scope requires coordination across civil construction, structural works, building services, utilities and commissioning, making the contract broader than the delivery of an individual industrial building.
Tata Projects said the integrated nature of the work would require close coordination across multiple engineering disciplines and construction activities to ensure the efficient execution and integration of the facility’s production and support infrastructure. The company also said the project would involve a broad network of specialist partners and suppliers.
Rajiv Menon, President and Chief Growth & Strategy Officer at Tata Projects, said the company had partnered with a leading global automotive manufacturer to create a facility that would contribute to the sector’s development. He added that the mandate represented a step towards broadening Tata Projects’ presence in advanced manufacturing.
The contract adds automotive manufacturing infrastructure to Tata Projects’ portfolio of technology-intensive projects. According to the company, its related experience includes semiconductor facilities, battery plants, data centres and other advanced manufacturing projects.
For Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the announcement places a large, multi-package industrial construction project in the city’s growing manufacturing landscape. However, the available information does not disclose the plant’s production capacity, investment size, employment potential, construction schedule or the expected date of commercial operations.
The announcement also leaves the automotive company’s identity undisclosed. Tata Projects said its immediate mandate includes execution through testing, commissioning and handover, but did not provide further details on project milestones or the timeline for completing the facility.
