Power supply was restored in parts of Vyasarpadi on Friday evening after hundreds of residents staged a road blockade over prolonged outages and voltage fluctuations that had affected the area for three days.
Residents from several parts of Vyasarpadi said electricity cuts were occurring during both the day and night, with some outages lasting several hours. They also complained of repeated voltage fluctuations and alleged that the irregular supply had damaged electrical appliances in several homes.
Agitated by what they described as an unsatisfactory response to complaints made through the electricity board’s emergency helpline, residents, including women and children, gathered on a main road and blocked traffic. The protest temporarily disrupted movement through the area.
Vyasarpadi police reached the location and held talks with the protesters. Police assured the residents that faulty cables and transformers would be repaired and that steps would be taken to restore uninterrupted electricity supply.
The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd said the disruption in parts of Vyasarpadi was caused by a fault in an underground power cable. The affected locations included Desinganandam Street, Moorthinagar Street and MM Garden.
The incident highlights the immediate impact of local distribution failures in dense urban neighbourhoods, where extended outages can affect household appliances, daily routines and traffic movement. In this case, the disruption also escalated into a public protest after residents said repeated complaints had not produced a satisfactory response.
TNPDCL said repair work on the underground cable was undertaken and that electricity would be restored after the fault was rectified. The utility later confirmed that the repair had been completed and power supply was restored at 5.35 pm on Friday.
