Thane traffic restrictions will be imposed near Loha-Palawa Junction in Kalyan for seven consecutive nights from September 15 to 22 as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) installs four cement girders for a new flyover, according to the Thane Traffic Police. The restrictions will operate between 11.30 pm and 5 am each night and will affect motorists travelling between Kalyan, Mumbra and Kalyan Phata.
The flyover is being constructed on the road from Loha-Palawa Junction through Kartai and Desai Khadi towards Kalyan-Shilphata. The girder installation will require a crane to be positioned around the construction zone, prompting the traffic police to regulate vehicle movement to prevent congestion and protect road users.
Light vehicles travelling from Kalyan towards Mumbra or Kalyan Phata will face an entry closure at Loha-Palawa Junction, opposite Navratna Sweet Corner. These vehicles will be diverted towards the opposite carriageway and directed up to the Kasa Rio cut, from where they will take a left turn and continue towards their respective destinations.
A one-way traffic arrangement will also be maintained on the single carriageway between Loha-Palawa Junction, Experia Mall and the Kasa Rio cut while the work is under way. The arrangement is intended to keep traffic moving through the affected stretch during the overnight construction activity.
Heavy and overdimensional vehicles travelling from Kalyan towards Mumbra or Kalyan Phata will not be allowed to enter at Kartai Chowk, also known as Badlapur Chowk. These vehicles will be diverted through Kartai Chowk, Khoni Naka and Taloja MIDC Road before continuing towards their destinations.
The restrictions coincide with the initial days of Ganeshotsav 2026, which begins on September 14. The timing is expected to affect motorists using the Kalyan-Shilphata and Mumbra-Kalyan Phata routes during the night, when construction vehicles and cranes will be operating near the flyover site.
According to the traffic police, the measures have been introduced to prevent congestion and ensure the safe and smooth movement of traffic around the construction zone. Police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances and other essential service vehicles will be exempt from the restrictions.
The restrictions will apply from 11.30 pm to 5 am on the nights of September 15-16, September 16-17, September 17-18, September 18-19, September 19-20, September 20-21 and September 21-22. Motorists using the affected routes during these periods will need to follow the diversions issued by the Thane Traffic Police.
