Faridabad stray dog attacks have raised concern in Shahupura village of Ballabhgarh after two five-year-old sisters were injured while they were walking to tuition, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR. Police said they had received complaints and were investigating the matter.
The sisters were reportedly confronted by two dogs that approached them from the front and behind as they ran along a street. One child climbed onto the ramp outside a house to escape. Both girls suffered injuries from the dogs’ claws, the report said. A video showing a dog chasing the children circulated on social media.
Another video that circulated on Saturday reportedly showed a dog chasing a child of about six years. The child was heard calling for help before family members reached the spot and drove the dog away. Residents said similar incidents had occurred in the area, including an incident on September 5 in which a child was allegedly injured by a dog shortly after leaving home.
Residents have also raised concerns about how dogs are fed and managed in the neighbourhood. Local resident Ritika Rawat said dogs were fed in the lane and remained outside homes and on the street after eating. She alleged that the animals sometimes chased or attacked children and passers-by. Residents also said they did not know whether the dogs had received anti-rabies vaccinations.
The report said villagers had alleged that the dogs attacked and killed a buffalo calf. That claim has not been independently established. Residents also alleged that a woman associated with an NGO kept the dogs and allowed them to roam freely. These allegations remain part of the complaints being examined by the police.
According to the report, villagers have faced the problem for around two years and have previously approached the police. Resident Chaman Devi alleged that locals had repeatedly asked for the dogs to be kept restrained, but were met with counter-allegations and threats involving their children. She also alleged that a family member threatened suicide.
Anil, an investigating officer at Sadar police station, said complaints had been received and that the matter was under investigation. He said action would be taken according to the findings of the inquiry. The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances of the reported attacks and examine the allegations made by residents.
