The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved the alignment for a new expressway that will directly link Noida International Airport with the Ganga Expressway.
Spanning 74.3 kilometres and with a width of 120 metres, the project is expected to significantly bolster regional connectivity, promote economic development, and facilitate smoother transit between key urban hubs. The proposed expressway will commence from YEIDA’s Sector 21, which is earmarked for the ambitious international film city project, and will terminate at the Ganga Expressway near Bulandshahr’s Siyana. This strategic alignment is designed to not only connect Noida Airport with the bustling industrial corridors of Bulandshahr but also link vital areas such as Aurangabad, Siyana, Garhmukteshwar, and other localities within Bulandshahr district.
The new corridor will integrate seamlessly with the existing Yamuna Expressway at the 24.8 km mark and merge with the Ganga Expressway at the 44.3 km milestone, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. This development is set to enhance access to Noida Airport from Delhi, Meerut, Prayagraj, and other major cities along the expressway’s route, thereby reducing travel time and boosting commercial activity. A senior official from YEIDA highlighted that the project aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating multi-modal transport networks to support India’s growing urban infrastructure. “This expressway will provide a critical link between the Yamuna Expressway and the Ganga Expressway, facilitating faster and more efficient movement of goods and people,” the official stated.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by YEIDA to proceed with the project, which will require land acquisition from 54 villages across Bulandshahr and Gautam Budh Nagar districts. This includes nine villages in GB Nagar and 45 in Bulandshahr. The land acquisition process is anticipated to commence shortly, with detailed surveys and stakeholder consultations already underway. Notably, the expressway will traverse through several developing sectors under the Yamuna Expressway Authority, including Sectors 28, 29, 32, and 33, further contributing to urban expansion and infrastructure development in the region.
Beyond its role in enhancing connectivity, the new expressway is poised to catalyse economic growth by opening up 13 new industrial zones along its alignment. These zones are strategically identified to attract both domestic and foreign investors, driven by the rising demand for land and industrial spaces in Uttar Pradesh. The expressway’s potential to integrate with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway also adds another layer of strategic importance. By creating seamless access from Noida Airport to the Delhi-Mumbai corridor, the project will not only facilitate faster freight movement but also bolster logistics efficiency, supporting India’s vision of becoming a global economic powerhouse.
Environmental experts, however, have called for sustainable planning in the expressway’s development to mitigate ecological impacts. Concerns regarding land acquisition, displacement of communities, and environmental degradation have been raised, urging authorities to adopt eco-friendly construction practices and incorporate green spaces along the route. Moreover, the project’s design is expected to prioritise energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure, including the integration of smart transport technologies and eco-friendly construction materials. These measures aim to reduce the carbon footprint and align with the broader goal of achieving zero-net carbon emissions in urban development projects. As the expressway project moves forward, it represents a critical milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s transport infrastructure agenda. It not only promises to enhance connectivity and economic prospects but also underscores the state’s commitment to modern, sustainable, and equitable urban growth.
With the groundwork now laid, the focus will shift to the efficient execution of the project, ensuring that it meets both the economic aspirations and environmental commitments of the region.
