Mumbai Metro Line 9 has moved closer to extending services from Kashigaon to Mira-Bhayandar, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority beginning integration work across Metro Lines 2A, 7 and 9. Special blocks will be imposed from September 15 to 25, during which passenger services on the affected corridors will begin at 6:30 am.
The integration work covers Metro Line 7 between Dahisar and Gundavali, Metro Line 2A between Dahisar and Andheri West, and Phase 1 of Metro Line 9. The temporary operating arrangement is intended to give technical teams uninterrupted time to migrate, test and validate signalling software while passenger services are not running.
According to the report, the impact on commuters has been limited to the early morning period. Services on Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Phase 1 of Line 9 will start at 6:30 am during the special-block period, instead of operating on their usual schedule. The blocks are scheduled to continue through September 25.
The move is linked to the planned operational integration of the Kashigaon-Mira-Bhayandar section, identified as Phase 2 of Metro Line 9. The authority is developing the Metro 9 corridor in two phases. Phase 1, covering 4.7 kilometres between Dahisar and Kashigaon, entered passenger service in April, according to the report.
The opening of Phase 1 allowed passengers to travel by metro between Dahisar and Kashigaon in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Through the integration of Metro Lines 2A and 7, commuters from Kashigaon can also travel towards Andheri West and Andheri East using the connected network.
The planned integration is significant because Metro Line 9 is intended to extend the existing north-western Mumbai suburban metro network towards Mira-Bhayandar. Once the Kashigaon-Mira-Bhayandar section is operational, the connected system is expected to enable metro travel between Andheri and Mira-Bhayandar without requiring passengers to rely entirely on road-based transport.
The report does not specify the date on which Phase 2 services will begin. The current work is an operational and signalling-related step towards commissioning the section, rather than an announcement of an immediate opening. The next confirmed milestone is the completion of the scheduled integration activities and testing between September 15 and 25.
