Mumbai Metro Line 9 Phase 2 has moved closer to commissioning, with Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) scheduling a 10-day morning block on Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 for signalling integration and train trials.
The temporary change will be in effect from September 15 to 25, 2026. During this period, passenger services on the three corridors will begin at 6.30 am instead of their usual start time, according to an official statement issued by MMMOCL.
The morning block will provide technical teams with an uninterrupted non-revenue window to carry out signalling software migration, testing and validation. MMMOCL said the adjustment had been restricted to the early morning period to limit the impact on passengers while allowing the pre-commissioning work to be completed safely.
Line 9 Phase 2 will add three stations to the existing Metro network. Since the new section is being integrated with operational Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1, its signalling system must be tested alongside the systems already running on the network before passenger operations can begin.
The signalling software required for speed trials on Line 9 Phase 2 is now available, allowing the next stage of testing to proceed. The exercise will involve controlled migration and testing through the Operations Control Centre at Charkop Depot, MMMOCL said.
The technical work cannot be carried out during normal revenue hours because the existing corridors continue to carry passengers. The planned block is therefore intended to create a controlled non-revenue period for teams to test and validate the integrated signalling system in line with prescribed safety and operational protocols.
The trials are a precondition for the safe commissioning of Line 9 Phase 2, although MMMOCL has not announced a passenger-service start date in the statement. The testing will determine whether the new section is ready to operate as part of the wider network.
Passengers using Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 have been advised to account for the later start during the 10-day period. MMMOCL has asked commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and said the work would help bring Line 9 Phase 2 closer to safe commissioning.
