Metro Line 9’s planned extension towards Mira-Bhayandar has moved closer to passenger operations, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority scheduling integration work across Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 between 15 and 25 September. During this period, passenger services on the affected corridors will begin at 6:30 am.
The work is intended to integrate the Kashi Gaon–Mira-Bhayandar section of Metro Line 9 with the existing network, allowing the operational systems of Lines 2A, 7 and the first phase of Line 9 to function together. The integration is a key step before services on the second phase of Line 9 can begin.
According to the report, the special block will provide technical teams with continuous time when passenger services are not operating. This period will be used for signalling software migration, testing and validation. The impact on passengers has been limited to the morning period during the scheduled block, with services on Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Phase 1 of Line 9 starting at 6:30 am.
Metro Line 9 is being developed in two phases. The 4.7-kilometre first phase between Dahisar and Kashi Gaon entered service in April, enabling passengers to travel between the two locations in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. The opening also allowed passengers from Kashi Gaon to connect towards Andheri West and Andheri East through the integrated Metro 2A and Metro 7 network.
The current network arrangement has already enabled metro travel between Kashi Gaon and Andheri. The next operational step is to connect this service further towards Mira-Bhayandar through the second phase of Metro Line 9. The integration work will therefore involve more than a new section of track: it will require the signalling and operating systems of multiple corridors to work as a coordinated network.
Metro Line 7 runs between Dahisar and Gundavali, while Metro Line 2A connects Dahisar with Andheri West. Their integration with the first phase of Line 9 has created the existing route between Kashi Gaon and Andheri. The scheduled technical block is focused on preparing the network for the next phase of operations.
For commuters, the immediate change during the 15–25 September period will be the later start of passenger services on the three affected corridors. The authority’s stated objective is to complete the required migration, testing and validation safely while keeping the disruption confined to a limited morning window. Further passenger operations on the Kashi Gaon–Mira-Bhayandar section will depend on the completion of this integration process and the subsequent operational steps announced by MMRDA.
