Jaipur Jeweller Attack: Police Have No Breakthrough, 12 Questioned

Police have made no breakthrough in the Jaipur jeweller attack in Jamdoli, where two brothers were assaulted and allegedly shot at during a suspected robbery attempt, while a woman who came to their aid was also injured. More than 12 suspects have been questioned, but the attackers have not yet been identified or arrested.

The victims, Sonu Swarnkar alias Soni, 35, and Nishu Soni, 38, run S R Jewellers in Radha Govind Vihar. They were returning home on a scooter from their showroom on Wednesday night when motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted them about 700 metres from their residence, according to the report.

Jamdoli police said the attackers opened fire, causing the brothers to fall from the scooter. They then allegedly assaulted them with sticks and iron rods when the victims resisted an attempt to snatch a bag containing jewellery. The attackers are also suspected of fleeing with two small jewellery boxes, according to the victims’ family.

Seema Gupta, 32, who lives opposite the spot, reportedly rushed to help the injured brothers. She was allegedly shot in the leg before the assailants fled. The three injured people were taken to SMS Hospital for treatment.

Police teams were sent to nearby areas after the incident, and investigators began questioning suspects and examining CCTV footage. The footage is being reviewed to trace the attackers’ movements and establish their identities. Police have not confirmed whether the suspects questioned so far were involved in the attack.

Investigators are examining the suspected robbery angle, including the alleged attempt to take the jewellery bag and the two boxes reportedly carried away by the attackers. Police are also awaiting medical findings to determine whether Gupta suffered pellet injuries. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been reported.
