Hyderabad To Begin Ranigunj RUB Construction Within 10 Days
Hyderabad is set to move forward with a major transport infrastructure project as authorities prepare to begin construction of the long-delayed Ranigunj Road Under Bridge (RUB) within the next 10 days. The project, which has remained stalled for nearly two-and-a-half years, is expected to improve connectivity across one of Secunderabad’s busiest traffic corridors while reducing delays caused by railway crossings.
The decision follows the completion of several administrative and operational clearances, including coordination between railway authorities and the traffic department. Officials have already initiated road repair and strengthening works on alternative routes that will accommodate traffic diversions during the construction phase. The Ranigunj RUB is part of broader efforts to modernise Hyderabad’s transport network and eliminate congestion bottlenecks around key railway intersections. Urban mobility experts note that road underpasses play an increasingly important role in improving travel efficiency, reducing vehicle idling time and enhancing overall traffic flow in rapidly growing cities.
The project had previously faced delays despite completion of the tendering process and fund allocation by railway authorities. Traffic police had withheld permission due to concerns that construction activity could significantly disrupt movement around Ranigunj, MG Road and adjoining commercial areas that experience heavy daily traffic volumes. Earlier this year, senior traffic and railway officials conducted detailed site inspections and reviewed diversion strategies aimed at minimising inconvenience to commuters. The assessment included evaluation of alternate routes, one-way traffic arrangements and congestion management measures across surrounding junctions. Authorities have now resumed preparations after completing improvements on roads identified for diversion routes. Once these works are finished, traffic restrictions will be implemented and construction activities will commence.
According to railway officials, the underpass is expected to take approximately six months to complete. During this period, vehicles travelling from Paradise towards Karbala Maidan will be diverted through alternative routes via Bombay Hotel and Ranigunj Adavayya Chowrasta. Traffic moving from Tank Bund and Karbala Maidan towards Paradise will continue to operate on the existing alignment, while heavy vehicles will be redirected from CTO Junction. Transport planners believe the project could deliver long-term benefits by improving corridor efficiency and reducing travel delays in central Secunderabad. However, they also emphasise the need for effective traffic management throughout the construction period to minimise disruptions for daily commuters and commercial traffic. As Hyderabad continues to invest in transport infrastructure upgrades, projects such as the Ranigunj RUB are increasingly viewed as essential for supporting urban growth, improving mobility and strengthening connectivity across key economic and residential districts.
