Guwahati Airports New Terminal Set for October Launch

Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport is on track to unveil its new terminal by October 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure development.

The ₹2,000 crore project, managed by Adani Airport Holdings, aims to transform the airport into a modern aviation hub capable of handling 13.1 million passengers annually. The new terminal is designed with sustainability at its core, featuring a unique ‘Bamboo Orchids’ theme that reflects Assam’s rich cultural heritage. The design incorporates elements inspired by the state’s natural beauty, including motifs of the foxtail orchid, symbolising love and fertility. This approach aligns with the growing emphasis on eco-friendly and sustainable urban development. Significant progress has been made in the construction of the terminal, with the expansion of entry and departure lanes, the addition of DigiYatra gates for seamless passenger processing, and the enhancement of security check-in areas. These upgrades are expected to streamline operations and improve the overall passenger experience.

The project also includes the development of a new taxiway, increasing the airport’s capacity to handle 34 take-offs and landings per hour, up from the previous 18. This improvement will facilitate smoother air traffic movement and reduce congestion. The terminal’s design prioritises passenger comfort, incorporating features such as expanded retail and recreational facilities, landscaped gardens, and improved signage. These enhancements aim to create a welcoming environment for travellers and elevate the airport’s status as a gateway to Northeast India.

As the October deadline approaches, the focus remains on ensuring that all aspects of the project are completed to the highest standards. The successful completion of the terminal upgrade will not only boost the airport’s capacity but also contribute to the region’s economic growth by improving connectivity and attracting investment. The Guwahati airport terminal upgrade exemplifies a commitment to sustainable development and modern infrastructure, setting a benchmark for future projects in the region. As the project nears completion, it stands as a testament to the potential of well-planned urban development in fostering economic and social progress.
