A collapse involving hot- and cold-water tanks at the Copper Sugar Mill in Dadariya village of Gujarat’s Tapi district killed two employees and triggered a rescue operation lasting several hours, officials said.
The incident took place at about 6:45 pm on Thursday at the sugar mill in Valod taluka. The two employees, identified as Arun Patel, 54, and Dharmesh Patel, 30, were trapped beneath debris after the tanks collapsed.
Police personnel and fire teams from Vyara and Bardoli were sent to the site after the collapse was reported. Rescue workers searched through the debris for roughly four to six hours before recovering the bodies of both employees, according to officials cited in the report.
Dilip Odedara of the Vyara Fire Department said the department received information about the incident from the Bardoli Fire Control Room and immediately dispatched a team to the factory near Valod.
“This incident occurred yesterday evening; around 6:45 PM, we received information from the Bardoli Fire Control Room that a structural collapse had taken place at a sugar factory near Valod. A hot water tank and a cold water tank had collapsed, prompting our deployment to the site,” Odedara said.
He said the search operation continued for about four to five hours before the two bodies were recovered and handed over to the police department. The report identified both deceased men as employees of the sugar mill.
The incident places the focus on the safety of industrial structures and equipment used in processing facilities, although the supplied report does not provide details about the condition of the tanks, the cause of the collapse, or any inspection or inquiry ordered after the deaths.
The bodies were handed over to the police following the rescue operation. Further official details about the collapse, including the findings of any investigation, were not available in the supplied report.
