Telangana Gas Leak Kills Two Workers at Sangareddy Plant

A gas leak at a chemical plant in Telangana’s Gaddapotharam industrial area killed two workers during a night shift early on Friday, with police investigating the cause of the incident and whether adequate safety measures were in place.

The leak occurred at around 3am in the Glaba block of Saraka Industries’ plant in Gaddapotharam, in Jinnaram mandal of Sangareddy district. The two workers were identified as Sudarshan Rao, 27, and Balaji, 44. Both were from Andhra Pradesh.

According to the report, the workers died after inhaling the leaked gas while they were on duty. The precise type of gas involved has not been established in the available information.

Police reached the plant after receiving information about the incident and inspected the scene. Investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the leak, the sequence of events during the night shift and whether the unit had adequate safety measures in place.

The incident places attention on the risks faced by workers in industrial areas operating around the clock. Night-shift operations can require workers to respond to leaks or equipment failures when fewer personnel may be present, but the available report does not establish whether staffing, alarms, protective equipment or emergency response systems contributed to the deaths.

Authorities have also not yet disclosed the source of the leak, the chemical involved or whether any other workers were affected. These details are expected to form part of the investigation into the accident.

Gaddapotharam is an industrial area in Sangareddy district, located within the wider Hyderabad region’s manufacturing and chemical-industry belt. The deaths at Saraka Industries will therefore be examined not only as an isolated workplace accident but also in relation to the safety systems governing industrial units and their workers.

The police investigation is continuing. The cause of the gas leak, the exact sequence of events and the adequacy of safety measures at the plant remain to be established.
