Ahmedabad Metro will end services early on Diwali, 8 November, with the last trains on key routes departing between 7:00 pm and 7:05 pm, according to a schedule change announced by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC). The revised timing will apply to metro services operating from all stations on the festival day.
The change has been introduced to reduce the risk of damage to metro trains and related infrastructure from the extensive use of firecrackers during Diwali, the report said. Passengers planning evening journeys will therefore need to complete their travel before the revised closing time.
The last trains on the Vastral Gam, Thaltej Gam, APMC and Koteshwar Road routes will depart between 7:00 pm and 7:05 pm. The information available in the report does not specify different closing times for individual stations beyond this route-wise departure window.
The early closure will affect Ahmedabad Metro’s regular evening operations on a day when travel patterns can differ from normal working days. Passengers returning from markets, family visits and festival-related activities will need to account for the shortened operating period when planning their journeys. No details of additional services or alternative arrangements were provided in the report.
Ahmedabad Metro has been carrying an average of 1.53 lakh passengers a day on normal days, according to the report. That daily average increased to 1.74 lakh during the August-October 2026 period, indicating the growing number of commuters and other passengers relying on the system.
The network also recorded strong monthly ridership in 2026. In July, it crossed 50 lakh passengers in a month for the first time, reaching 51.12 lakh. August then recorded its highest monthly ridership to date, with 54.29 lakh passengers using the metro, the report said.
The revised Diwali schedule means that the timing change will apply amid this rising usage of the system. GMRC’s decision links the early closure to the need to prevent possible damage caused by firecrackers. The last departures from the affected routes are scheduled between 7:00 pm and 7:05 pm on 8 November.
