Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Cuts Diwali Hours for Safer Travel

The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro will operate for shorter hours on Diwali on 8 November, with services ending by 7 pm in Ahmedabad and 6 pm in Gandhinagar, according to a report by Divya Bhaskar. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has taken the decision citing passenger safety and the impact of firecracker activity on public roads.

On regular days, Ahmedabad Metro services operate from 6.20 am to 11 pm, while the Gandhinagar section operates until 9 pm. The revised schedule will bring forward the final departures across the network on 8 November.

On the Ahmedabad corridor, the last train from Vastral Gam to Thaltej will leave at 7 pm, while the final train from Thaltej will depart at 7.05 pm. The last service from APMC to Koteshwar Road is scheduled for 7.08 pm, and the final train from Koteshwar Road to APMC will leave at 7.05 pm.

Services connecting Ahmedabad with Gandhinagar and the wider urban region will also end earlier. The last train from APMC to Mahatma Mandir is scheduled for 5.30 pm, followed by the final departure from Mahatma Mandir to APMC at 6.08 pm. The last service from APMC to GIFT City will leave at 5.16 pm, while the final train from GIFT City to APMC is scheduled for 6.21 pm.

The revised timings mean that passengers travelling between Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and GIFT City will need to account for earlier last departures than on normal operating days. The change is particularly relevant for commuters using the intercity sections, where the final services are scheduled before the Ahmedabad corridor closes.

The decision places the metro timetable within the wider festival-day transport and safety arrangements. The report said the service reduction was introduced in view of firecracker activity on public roads and to protect passengers as well as metro operations. Regular service timings are expected to apply outside the Diwali schedule, with the altered hours limited to 8 November.
