Uttar Pradesh will organise special voter enrolment camps at industrial establishments, corporate workplaces, housing societies, construction sites and other urban locations to identify eligible residents missing from electoral rolls ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the state election machinery said on Friday.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has directed district election officers to involve public and private sector enterprises, resident welfare associations, trade unions, bar associations, medical organisations and civil defence volunteers in the ongoing Special Summary Revision 2027. The campaign is intended to make voter registration available at locations where eligible residents live and work, rather than relying only on conventional government offices.
Under the initiative, public sector undertakings and industrial establishments will host special camps to facilitate enrolment of eligible employees. Resident welfare associations will help identify new residents, first-time voters and people whose names are missing from electoral rolls in apartment complexes, housing societies and residential colonies.
The plan also covers workers who can face practical barriers to accessing registration services. Labour organisations have been asked to assist with the enrolment of factory workers, employees in industrial areas and people working at construction sites, including contractual, daily-wage and unorganised-sector workers. The inclusion of construction sites places the electoral revision exercise within one of the state’s most mobile and transient urban workforces.
Civil defence volunteers will help identify eligible voters in densely populated urban neighbourhoods and slum settlements. The election machinery will also involve the Indian Medical Association, private hospitals, nursing homes and other medical institutions in registration camps and awareness programmes, particularly in underserved and remote areas.
The initiative assigns a wider mobilisation role to local institutions and community-level representatives. Current and former village pradhans, municipal councillors, social workers and prominent citizens will be brought in to identify eligible residents who remain unregistered, according to the chief electoral officer’s directions.
District election officers have been instructed to coordinate with the participating organisations and schedule camps on special campaign days and other suitable occasions. The arrangement places resident associations, employers, labour groups, healthcare institutions and local representatives inside the administrative process for updating electoral rolls before the 2027 Assembly elections.
