Faridabad hospital infrastructure is set for a major expansion after the Haryana government approved a 100-bed multispeciality hospital at the existing district health department dispensary in Sector 7. The project is expected to provide treatment for cancer, kidney, liver, lung and heart-related illnesses and will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 47 crore.
The proposed hospital is part of a Chief Minister’s announcement and will replace the existing civil dispensary, which the report describes as being in a dilapidated condition. A multistorey building will be constructed on the site. Besides clinical facilities, offices of the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officers are also expected to be shifted to the new building.
The approval comes after the state government announced that the urban health centre in Sector 45, Mevla Maharajpur, would be upgraded into a 50-bed sub-divisional hospital. The process for appointing staff for that facility has begun, according to the report. Together, the two projects indicate an expansion of public healthcare capacity across Faridabad’s urban areas, although the Sector 7 hospital is still at the pre-construction stage.
The new facility is intended to address gaps in the treatment available through existing public hospitals. At BK Hospital, cancer patients currently have access to a day-care centre where chemotherapy is provided. Patients requiring radiation and other forms of cancer treatment are referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Rohtak, according to the report.
The referral burden also affects economically weaker patients with kidney, liver and lung-related conditions. The report states that many such patients depend on private hospitals or travel to Delhi for treatment. Delhi hospitals also receive patients from other states, contributing to overcrowding and longer waits for care, it said. The proposed multispeciality hospital is expected to reduce the need for some patients to travel outside Faridabad, particularly those who cannot afford private treatment.
The project will require the removal of some trees from the Sector 7 site. Dr MP Singh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, said the construction could proceed after court approval for the tree removal is obtained. He said the department expected the approval at the next hearing and would accelerate construction thereafter.
The approval therefore establishes the project in principle, but construction, staffing, commissioning and the actual availability of specialist services remain future milestones. The state’s next immediate step is to secure the court’s permission related to the trees before beginning construction at the Sector 7 site.
