NH-44 Road Accident Near Hyderabad Kills Four, Driver Critical

Four members of a family were killed and their driver was critically injured after an Innova met with a road accident on NH-44 near Palamakula village in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Friday night, according to the police.

The family was travelling from Mettugadda Thanda in Nawabpet mandal of Mahabubnagar district to Shamshabad after attending Ganesh immersion celebrations. The four occupants died at the spot, the police said.

The deceased were identified as Kethavath Limbya, 54, his wife Kethavath Jamuna, 45, Katravath Mansingh, 48, and Kethavath Vasram, 45. Limbya, Mansingh and Vasram were engaged in business, while Jamuna was a homemaker.

The vehicle’s driver, Sabavath Ashok, sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was shifted to Trident Hospital in Shamshabad for treatment, according to the report.

The accident occurred on NH-44 near Palamakula, a location on the highway corridor connecting areas around Hyderabad with destinations in Telangana and neighbouring regions. The incident involved a family returning after a religious immersion event, when road traffic and late-night travel formed part of the journey between Mahabubnagar district and Shamshabad.

The deaths highlight the consequences of road crashes on high-speed highway corridors, where a single incident can affect multiple occupants travelling in one vehicle. In this case, all four passengers in the Innova died at the scene, while the driver required hospitalisation for serious injuries.

The police registered a case following the accident. The available report did not provide details about the circumstances that led to the crash, including the vehicle’s speed, the involvement of any other vehicle, road conditions or the precise point of impact. Those details would be established through the police investigation.

The case also comes amid increased movement on roads around Hyderabad during Ganesh immersion-related travel. Families and groups travelling between districts and the city use major corridors such as NH-44 to reach destinations including Shamshabad. The accident has brought renewed attention to the safety risks faced by passengers and drivers on these routes, although the police report did not identify a specific cause for this crash.

The immediate official response has focused on transporting the injured driver to hospital, identifying the deceased and registering a case. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation into the accident continues.
