Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar launched an AI complaint kiosk at Mehdipatnam Police Station on Friday, introducing a pilot system designed to make complaint registration easier, provide instant acknowledgements and allow citizens to track petitions digitally.
The kiosk, named ‘SETU’, enables residents to submit complaints in the language of their choice. Artificial intelligence is used to digitally record their statements, after which the system provides an acknowledgement and guides complainants on the next steps, according to Telangana Today.
Each petition submitted through the kiosk is assigned a digital tracking mechanism. This allows senior police officers to monitor the progress of a complaint and the action taken on it until resolution. The system is intended to create a traceable record of complaints rather than leaving citizens dependent only on station-level follow-up.
Police said the kiosk could also reduce the time spent by station personnel on complaint registration. By shifting parts of the intake process to a digital platform, the pilot is expected to support faster recording of complaints while allowing police staff to focus on subsequent action.
Sajjanar said SETU, which means ‘bridge’, was designed to strengthen trust between citizens and the police. The system combines complaint registration, acknowledgement and tracking in one interface, addressing several points at which complainants may otherwise face uncertainty about whether their petition has been recorded or what happens next.
The Mehdipatnam installation is currently a pilot project, and the police have not announced a wider rollout schedule. Sajjanar said the service would be expanded to other police stations in phases based on the outcome of the pilot. The assessment will determine how the system performs before it is introduced more widely across Hyderabad.
