A fire broke out in a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train operating between Daund and Pune on the morning of June 16, 2025, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred around 7:52 AM when the train, which departs from Daund at 7:05 AM daily, reached Yevat station in Pune district. According to initial reports, the third coach from the engine caught fire, leading to thick smoke spreading throughout the compartment. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or casualties.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Loni promptly detained the alleged culprit, a 55-year-old man believed to be mentally unstable, at Yevat station. Initial investigations suggest that the man may have ignited the fire inside the DEMU train at Yevat station. However, neither the suspect nor any passengers were injured in the incident. The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Daund is coordinating with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to prepare a joint investigation report. Due to the incident, Train No. 71404 was detained for approximately 20 minutes at Yevat station, from 7:52 to 8:14 AM. A joint investigation report is currently being prepared at the Pune Division office.

This incident has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. Authorities are urging passengers to adhere to safety guidelines and report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety of all travelers. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety protocols in public transportation systems. While the quick response of the railway staff and law enforcement prevented any casualties, it highlights the need for continuous efforts to enhance safety measures and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. As investigations continue, the railway authorities are expected to implement additional safety measures and conduct awareness campaigns to educate passengers about the importance of following safety guidelines and reporting any suspicious activities promptly.

These steps are crucial in ensuring the safety and security of all passengers traveling on the Daund-Pune route and other railway services across the country. In conclusion, while the fire incident on the Daund-Pune DEMU train on June 16, 2025, did not result in any casualties, it underscores the critical need for heightened safety measures and passenger awareness in public transportation systems. The swift actions of the railway staff and law enforcement were commendable, but ongoing efforts are essential to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of all travelers.
