Cyberabad Plans Paid Parking Along Busy IT Corridor Roads
Hyderabad’s technology corridor could soon see a major change in traffic management as Cyberabad Police consider introducing paid parking facilities along key roads in Knowledge City and Madhapur. The proposal aims to address growing concerns over illegal roadside parking, traffic congestion, street racing and unsafe driving activities in some of the city’s busiest commercial districts.
Authorities are focusing on high-traffic stretches including the Cafe Niloufer–My Home Bhooja Road in Knowledge City and the ITC Kohenur Road in Madhapur. These corridors serve major IT parks, office campuses, residential developments and commercial destinations, attracting thousands of visitors every day. Officials note that extensive roadside parking has significantly reduced available road capacity, particularly during evenings when vehicles line both sides of key carriageways. In several locations, roads designed to handle heavy traffic volumes are effectively operating with reduced lane availability, contributing to congestion and travel delays.
Cyberabad Police are currently discussing the creation of designated paid parking facilities with IT companies and commercial establishments operating in the area. A vacant land parcel owned by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation has been identified as a potential location for one of the proposed parking facilities. Urban mobility experts highlight that dedicated parking infrastructure can improve traffic flow by reducing roadside parking while enhancing road safety. Well-managed parking systems also help preserve the carrying capacity of major transport corridors and improve accessibility in high-demand business districts.
The initiative is also linked to broader public safety concerns. The Knowledge City corridor has emerged as a recurring hotspot for dangerous driving, vehicle stunts and street racing incidents, particularly during late-night hours. Authorities believe better parking management combined with stricter enforcement could discourage activities that compromise public safety. Police have indicated that the proposed parking facilities will be accompanied by stronger towing enforcement. Vehicles parked illegally on carriageways may face immediate removal as authorities seek to restore roads to their intended transportation function. Transport planners note that as Hyderabad’s western growth corridor continues to attract investment and employment, managing curbside space effectively will become increasingly important. Balancing accessibility, mobility and public safety is expected to remain a key challenge for rapidly expanding commercial districts. If implemented, the paid parking initiative could serve as a model for managing congestion in other high-density urban corridors while supporting Hyderabad’s broader efforts to improve mobility, road safety and transport efficiency.
