Cyberabad police have terminated and arrested a 36-year-old home guard accused of assaulting a woman near Hafeezpet railway station in Hyderabad after a video of the incident circulated on social media. The Miyapur police registered a suo motu case and initiated action after senior police officials took note of the footage.
The accused, identified as Kadiga Anand, was attached to the railway police. The video showed him in uniform allegedly repeatedly slapping the woman, grabbing her by the hair and dragging her before assaulting her in a public area near the station.
Police said the incident was reported on Friday evening at Hafeezpet railway station. “On Friday evening, an incident was reported at Hafeezpet railway station wherein a Home Guard allegedly misbehaved with a woman, caught hold of her hair and dragged her. Taking cognisance of the incident, Miyapur police registered a suo motu case and apprehended the accused home guard,” Cyberabad police said.
The case was registered after Director General of Police CV Anand took note of the video and directed Cyberabad police authorities to act against the home guard. Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh subsequently terminated Anand from service.
The action involves both a criminal case and departmental consequences. Police said Anand had been arrested and was being produced before a local magistrate.
