Hyderabad’s northern transport corridor is facing mounting pressure as delays in the Paradise-to-Dairy Farm Elevated Corridor and the stalled Suchitra-Kompally flyover project continue to disrupt daily travel for more than 1.5 lakh commuters using NH-44.
The corridor, one of the city’s most important arterial routes, has become a major bottleneck due to unfinished flyover structures, ongoing construction activity, road diversions and narrowed carriageways. The prolonged delays have significantly affected connectivity between Secunderabad, Bowenpally, Suchitra, Kompally and surrounding residential and commercial areas. Traffic congestion has intensified near Bowenpally, where construction of the Paradise-to-Bowenpally section is in its final stages. Although authorities have introduced temporary traffic management measures, including additional service lanes, U-turns and diversion routes, commuters continue to report long delays and difficult driving conditions during peak hours.
A key challenge remains the Suchitra-Kompally flyover section, where construction has reportedly remained stalled for more than a year due to legal, contractual and financial disputes. The unfinished infrastructure has increased pressure on existing roads while forcing traffic onto local streets not designed to accommodate such high vehicle volumes. Urban mobility experts note that delays in major infrastructure projects can create ripple effects across citywide transport networks. Increased travel times, fuel consumption, road safety risks and traffic spillovers into residential areas often become significant consequences of prolonged construction activity. Safety has emerged as an additional concern along the corridor. Accident-prone locations identified on the NH-44 stretch have recorded numerous crashes and fatalities in recent years, highlighting the need for improved traffic management and faster project completion.
Authorities continue to deploy additional traffic personnel and monitor construction zones to minimise disruptions. However, transport planners stress that long-term relief will depend on resolving project bottlenecks and completing the elevated corridor as quickly as possible. As Hyderabad continues to expand, the NH-44 corridor remains a critical transport link connecting residential growth zones, commercial districts and regional highways. The successful completion of the elevated corridor is expected to improve mobility, reduce congestion and strengthen connectivity across the city’s rapidly developing northern region.
