Reliance Announces ₹1 Trillion Andhra Pradesh Clean-Energy Plan

Reliance Industries plans to invest ₹1 trillion in Andhra Pradesh to establish compressed biogas plants, a proposal the company says will create more than 3 lakh jobs and generate nearly ₹60,000 crore in revenue for the state over the coming decades. The announcement was made by executive director Anant M Ambani at a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle on Friday.

The proposed plants would produce compressed biogas, or CBG, by processing agricultural residue, animal dung, food waste and other forms of organic biomass into methane-rich gas. The fuel can be used as an alternative to conventional natural gas in transport, industry and commercial applications.

Ambani said the investment would support Andhra Pradesh’s transition towards cleaner energy while creating new opportunities for farmers. He described the plan as a way for agricultural communities to contribute to both food and energy security. The company said the CBG facilities could also create markets for farm and organic waste, generate rural employment and produce bio-manure as a by-product.

“These CBG plants will create over 3 lakh jobs and bring nearly ₹60,000 crore in revenue to the state over the next decades,” Ambani said, according to the report. The announcement did not specify the number, location or construction timeline of the proposed plants.

Ambani also said Reliance was investing in clean-energy projects in the Rayalaseema region and exploring opportunities in advanced manufacturing. The company has established a research and development centre for bio-energy development in Jamnagar, he said.

The investment announcement came alongside details of the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub, which Ambani said was backed by ₹40,000 crore. The hub is intended to promote technology-driven agriculture in the region. The Indian School of Agriculture is expected to combine artificial intelligence and modern farming technology with farmers’ existing knowledge, with proposed applications including pest prediction, drone-based crop monitoring, precision irrigation, robotics and price intelligence.

Reliance’s telecom arm Jio is expected to collaborate with the school to deliver training programmes to farmers through virtual classrooms in villages. Ambani said the programmes would be offered in Indian languages and could train rural youth to work as digitally enabled agricultural extension workers. He also referred to Jio Krishi, a platform offering products for farmers.

The initiatives are being positioned as a way to expand rural enterprise and enable young people to build livelihoods within their villages. Ambani said Reliance would continue supporting the Indian School of Agriculture through strategic investment, digital capabilities, technical expertise and industry partnerships. He also said the company would explore cooperation between the school and Vantara’s proposed university for wildlife and veterinary sciences.

Ambani cited Andhra Pradesh government data showing that 388 mega projects had been approved since June 2024, with investment commitments exceeding ₹14 trillion and potential employment of nearly 11 lakh people. He said about one-third of those investments were headed to the Rayalaseema region. The figures were presented as state government data and were not independently detailed in the report.

The latest announcement adds clean-energy production, agricultural technology and advanced manufacturing to the investment areas Reliance is pursuing in Andhra Pradesh. Further details on project locations, implementation schedules, financing arrangements and construction milestones were not provided at the ceremony.
