Hyderabad Connectivity Push Targets MMTS Crossings and Road Bottlenecks

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation is examining new elevated corridors, road-over-bridges, an underpass and road-widening works to improve movement across Hyderabad’s Lingampally–Borabanda MMTS railway line and connect key employment and residential areas.

CMC Commissioner G Srijana conducted a field inspection to assess possible connectivity options between the HKC, the Financial District and Kokapet on one side, and Kukatpally, Nizampet and Mayuri Nagar on the other. Officials reviewed the proposals on the ground to understand existing road conditions, available space and the practical requirements for improving movement across the railway line.

Among the options examined were new elevated corridors-cum-road-over-bridges towards Miyapur Metro Station and Mayuri Nagar. Another proposal involves creating connectivity from Shilpa Layout towards JNTU Metro Station and Nizampet X Roads. An underpass was also considered as part of this connection.

The inspection additionally covered the proposed widening of the Hafeezpet and Kukatpally road-over-bridges from four lanes to six lanes. Officials also examined a possible link from the Khaithalapur road-over-bridge to Kukatpally Highway through GOCL Road.

Road-widening requirements on the stretch from NIA Junction near Yashoda Hospital towards Kondapur, through the Hitex–Mundikunta route, were also reviewed during the visit. The locations connect areas with different transport and land-use demands, including metro stations, residential neighbourhoods, employment districts and major road corridors.

The proposals are intended to increase traffic movement between these areas and address the need for additional connectivity across the MMTS railway line. The inspection focused on whether the proposed links could be accommodated within existing physical conditions, rather than announcing a final project or construction schedule.

The Lingampally–Borabanda railway alignment currently forms a significant cross-city barrier in the areas examined by the civic authorities. The options under review vary in form, from grade-separated road infrastructure and bridge widening to a possible underpass and road improvements. Their eventual design will depend on the feasibility of each location and the space available along the existing corridors.

The field review also places emphasis on connections to Miyapur and JNTU metro stations, suggesting that the proposed road links are being assessed in relation to existing public transport access points. The inspection covered both new structures and upgrades to existing road-over-bridges, indicating that the connectivity plan includes capacity expansion as well as entirely new links.

According to officials, further action will be taken after the feasibility of the proposed options has been examined. No final decision, implementation timeline or construction commencement date was provided in the announcement.
