Andheri West Metro Station on Mumbai’s Metro 2A corridor is expected to get a pod hotel within a month, offering short-term rest and overnight accommodation to passengers, tourists, business travellers and people visiting the city for work, according to a report by Loksatta quoting senior officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The capsule-style hotel is being developed by Snooze House inside the station premises. Construction is in its final stage, and the facility is expected to include arrangements for both resting and staying overnight. The project is positioned as a passenger-oriented service at Andheri, one of Mumbai’s important and centrally located urban areas.
The Metro 2A corridor runs between Dahisar and Andheri West. It is one of four metro corridors currently in service under MMRDA’s network, alongside Metro 7 between Dahisar and Gundavali, Phase 1 of Metro 9 between Dahisar and Kashigaon, and Phase 1 of Metro 2B between Mankhurd and Chembur.
The pod hotel is also part of MMRDA’s broader effort to generate revenue from metro station premises beyond ticket sales. The authority has been making station spaces available on lease to retailers and companies, with several outlets already operational. A McDonald’s outlet is also expected to open at a metro station, while the Metro Books outlet at Andheri West has reportedly attracted passengers with books priced between Rs 99 and Rs 150.
MMRDA has begun a tender process to lease additional spaces across the four operational corridors. According to the report, the process could lead to the opening of 527 more shops in and around the metro stations. The expansion will increase the range of commercial and passenger services available within the network.
The Andheri West pod hotel will add an accommodation facility directly within a functioning metro station, allowing users to rest without travelling to a separate hotel. The service is expected to be particularly relevant for office-goers, professionals and visitors who need a short stay near a major transport connection. The report did not provide details of the hotel’s room capacity, tariff structure, booking system or operating hours.
The facility’s opening timeline remains subject to completion of the ongoing work and the arrangements required before operations begin. MMRDA officials cited in the report said the pod hotel is expected to start within a month.
