A special Mumbai Ganeshotsav train carrying devotees from Dadar to Kudal in Konkan departed around noon on September 12, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, according to Shiv Sena leader Nilesh N Rane.
Rane said in a post on X that the train, referred to as the “Shiv Sena Express”, was arranged for Konkani people travelling from Mumbai to their native villages for Ganeshotsav. The train was flagged off in the presence of Shiv Sena office-bearers, party workers and residents from the Konkan region.
The service comes ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, which will be celebrated on September 14 this year. Ganeshotsav traditionally triggers significant seasonal movement from Mumbai to towns and villages across Konkan, where families gather for festival celebrations.
According to Rane, the arrangement was intended to provide devotees with a free and safe journey to their native places. He said a similar arrangement had been made last year as well, without providing further details in the post about the train’s capacity, fare arrangements or operating schedule.
Rane also shared photographs from the flag-off ceremony and wished the passengers a pleasant journey. The departure from Dadar comes as large numbers of residents are expected to travel from Mumbai to different parts of Konkan in the days surrounding the festival.
The special train was headed for Kudal, according to Rane’s announcement. No further operational details, including intermediate stops or the return schedule, were provided in the supplied account.
